In his early years, Al's artist mother's teaching, influence and encouragement to pursue art,
largely shaped
his appreciation and ultimately participation in the arts. The experience of
being a cattleman, outdoorsman, combat veteran, sailor, businessman, and
student of life, have all affected Al's desire to express his feelings through
art. Having worked in several mediums; oils, his major method of
expression, best suits his being both an "on location" and an
"in studio" painter.

Al has lived and painted in Baja Mexico for
several years, and enjoys painting the deserts and mountains of the West and
Southwestern United States. (He claims that these locations lend themselves
well to works ranging from impressionistic to representational styles).
Studying painting for many years has given him the opportunity to work with
artists and teachers such as
Ron Sugars, Dorner Schueller, Gerald Brommer,
LaVere Hutchings, Robert E.
Wood, Carl V. Miller and others, to name just a
few. Competing in juried art shows has not only afforded Al the opportunity to
compare his work with other artists, but has also resulted in recognition and
many awards.

At present Al is a member of the
Central California Art League, Modesto, and maintains a studio in
Turlock, California.
