The Ripple of a Miracle
The Story of Prentice Terry
Minner II (PT)
Happy Birthday to You, Happy Birthday
to You, Happy Birthday Dear PT, Happy Birthday to You!
It is the morning of December 23, 1999,
and there is a puzzled look on PT's face as I sing him the Happy
Birthday song, because I usually wake him up with the song that goes
"Good Morning to You, Good Morning to You, Good Morning Dear PT,
God's Blessings on You!". I was particularly interested in
how PT would respond, because he had not been feeling well for
approximately 10 days. He had the symptoms of a mild cold, and
the advice nurse that I had been consulting advised me to keep the
fever under control and watch for any unusual symptoms. But on
this particular morning, even though he was jovial, the spirit within
me said, "Take him to the hospital, now!".
When I suggested that I was going to
take him to the hospital, Gary, a young man who is working with our
ministry, said that he thought PT looked OK and that I should just wait
a little while longer. A nurse friend of mine suggested that
since it was his birthday and there was a celebration planned, that I
should wait and take him to the hospital in the morning if his
symptoms continued. She asked me a few questions regarding his
condition, his appearance and his reactions, such as was he going
limp, etc. I responded 'no', but to the contrary. He was
singing hi "Na Na" song quite enthusiastically, and seemed
by all other indications to be normal. Yet the Holy Spirit
inside of me told me to take him to the hospital without delay.
I informed Gary that I needed to take
him to the hospital and to get the car ready. We hurriedly drove
him to the nearest Kaiser Clinic, only to find that the Pediatric
Department was closed for lunch. So we decided to have lunch as
well, rather than wait in the waiting room. During this lunch,
PT had a hearty appetite, which included a full bowl of oatmeal, a
little eggs, and drank all his milk and juice. I even
entertained the thought of waiting until Monday because he seemed to
be doing so well. And yet the Spirit persisted in persuading me
to not pay attention to outside indications and to take him to the
hospital.
